Boiler Replacement

free boiler replacementOld inefficient boilers and heating controls can burn though your money.  Mere End Consultants offer a range of energy efficient boilers, heat emitters and heating controls that can reduce your energy bills, whilst reducing your carbon footprint.

Your boiler accounts for around 55% of your household energy spend so a modern A-rated  high efficiency condensing boiler is a great way of saving money whilst keeping you warm.  To comply with the UK’s Building Regulations, all new boilers must be a high efficiency condensing boiler and your heating controls must be able to effectively regulate the building temperature during periods of occupancy.

Condensing boilers work by reusing waste gas that is ejected through the flue system and then passed through a second heat exchanger, where it extracts additional heat.  At Mere End Consultants, our work is accredited by the UK’s leading boiler manufacturers and we are able to offer the best prices along with extended guarantees on all of our recommended products.

Benefits of the governments ECO scheme for qualifying customers

Glow-worm accredited installerWe all know that the cost of our energy bills keeps rising, but is there help available to people on low incomes or those in receipt of certain benefits? Fortunately, help is available in the form of the Government’s Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme.

The ECO scheme is linked to the Green Deal and it is part of Government measures to its meet carbon emission targets. It means energy suppliers and Green Deal Providers can give grants to low income households.

The legally binding Energy Company Obligation covers three areas:

Affordable Warmth Obligation: This includes help with installing new boilers and heating controls and improving insulation.

Carbon Saving Obligation:
In the past, similar schemes such as Warm Front England didn’t offer solid wall insulation, internal wall or external wall insulation. Nevertheless, ECO will provide funding for these relatively expensive energy saving measures. As this is not means tested, it could be used in conjunction the Green Deal.

Carbon Saving Communities Obligation: Those in the UK’s most deprived areas will benefit from better insulation. This will be especially helpful for people in social housing.

As you can see, customers who qualify for the ECO scheme can receive funding to help them to save money on their energy bills today, but they can also future-proof themselves against further price hikes.

How to operate a heating system efficiently

Operating a system heatingFirst of all, you can upgrade your boiler and heating controls if they are over twelve years old, but if this isn’t currently an option, you can try taking these simple steps to make your home more efficient and save money.

Install a room thermostat: If you don’t already have one, you could be losing out. Room thermostats measure the temperature of the air in a room and then adjust the boiler’s temperature accordingly. Wireless thermostats are now available and you can have a number of them for different rooms.

Turn it down! Just turning your thermostat down by 1°C can reduce your heating bill and carbon footprint.

Hot water tanks: If you have a hot water tank, make sure that it is adequately insulated with a good quality jacket.

Timers and programmers: Set your heating to come on when you need it most. Timers and programmers allow you to keep warm during cold winter mornings, evenings and weekends. You don’t have to worry about leaving your heating on by accident!

Radiator valves: You can save money with Thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs), by adjusting the temperature of each room, or turning radiators off completely.
